MGC, which began in 2004 at SIU and is a sub-council of the Inter-
Greek Council. It is made up of fraternities and sororities. The purpose
of MGC is to serve as a governing body, to create and maintain high
standards in the life of culturally-based fraternities and sororities by
addressing, coordinating and developing strategic programming, to
unify organizations involved in MGC, promote higher education, provide
community services, enhance leadership and to serve as a liaison
between the MGC, other Greek Councils, the University student body and
administration, thereby improving campus life. Each MGC fraternity and
sorority sends representatives to MGC’s biweekly meetings.
How to Join an MGC Fraternity or Sorority
Each MGC fraternity & sorority recruits differently. Many will host
informational meetings early each semester. If you are interested in a
specific organization, please contact that organization directly. You may also complete the Greek Interest Form.
Requirements to Join a MGC Fraternity or Sorority
Each organization has its own minimum requirements set by their
national organization and SIUC chapter. Please contact the SIUC chapter
that you are interested in to fi nd out their requirements. However, MGC
has its own minimum requirements in addition to the national and
chapter requirements. To join a MGC organization, a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.4
is required in addition to being a student at SIUC.
